Bob Smith, who sadly passed away on Saturday morning(3rd
Oct), was a very popular person with a wide range of friends. His
sense of humour was infectious and he loved a joke with his mates.
Bob lived life to the full. He worked for 35 years at Bond and Bond
which became L.D. Nathans and then Associated Wholesalers.
He was always interested in sport and until recently enjoyed Sky
TV watching the Rugby, Cricket etc.
Bob’s other interests included fishing and travelling.
He loved fishing and at one stage owned a dinghy with a 6 HP Johnson
Motor. He travelled at various times to Australia, U.S.A. and Europe
with parties and in latter times with a minder to assist him. He
also loved competitive games and for many |

| years belonged to the Auckland Bridge
Club. When he could no longer attend the club he played bridge on
his Computer.
Bob has recently completed a book on his life which is now in the
hands of a printer. It is hoped that the book will be distributed
to family, friends and Disabled Groups prior to Christmas.
Bob has paid for the printing himself and any proceeds from the
sale to members of the CP Society, CCS and Christian Ministry for
the Disabled, are to be kept as a donation from Bob to each group.
“I am sure that Bob's wish is that his life story will encourage
those with special needs to set their goals and strive to achieve
them as he was able to do, through the many challenges and ups and
downs, throughout his own very full life,” said Bob’s
friend of fifty years, Doug Astley*.
For many years Bob was a member of various Cerebral Palsy committees
and held down the role of treasurer on numerous occasions.
He passed away peacefully at Everill Orr Village. He was 71 years
old.
The intention is for the funeral to be a celebration of Bob's life.
See funeral details, in our News and Events column, which is to
the right of this article.
*Thanks Doug for supplying the above information at such short notice.”
