| Such things as wrist
bands, balloons and posters maximising the name “Conductive
Education,” (CE) will be highly visible this week, throughout
the country, as Conductive Education Awareness Week
begins.
(25 -29th May)
Every opportunity will be taken to make the public and other
professionals, who work with the disabled, aware of what conductive
education can offer people with motor disorders.
CE centres right across New Zealand have contacted local newspapers,
radio stations, and television channels to get maximum exposure
for their events.
Addington CE are mounting displays at three
shopping malls to spread the word to the general public .
These mall visits are planned for Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
On Tuesday a games morning will be shared with the able bodied
school community. Conductive Education patron Wayne Smith
will be attending this function. An open day is planned on
Thursday.
Canterbury CE are holding a fun open day
inviting the children and families from the mainstream early
childhood centres. A morning tea is also planned for current
and former families of the centre.
Waikato are planning an awareness campaign
at the Westfield mall. They have also organised television
and radio interviews and two open days at their centre.
On Saturday 23rd May Southland CE held a
Monster Garage Sale at their centre and next Saturday 30th
they are holding a Gala Day with treasure hunts, donkey rides
and arts and crafts sale. There are also open days throughout
the week at the Southland centre.
The highlight of Auckland CE’s awareness
week is an open day on Wednesday 27th May, where morning and
afternoon visitors will be invited to observe beginners and
kindergarten groups in class. At 11am, on the same day, the
film “Our Journey” will be shown. This film shows
Conductive Education through parent’s eyes.
The level of Conductive Education awareness will certainly
be raised by the end of this week.
